A philosophical essay written by Baron D'Holbach, otherwise known as Paul Henri Thiry, is one of the more significant works of atheist literature- At least during the Enlightenment. System of Nature. The one bit that stuck with me after reading parts of System of Nature. Was the opening paragraph of the book's preface:. What does this mean? Of our prejudices, according to our sense of truth and perception of reality, distort reality. Well, it's a bit of a tangent but I...

Socrates' Daemon and the Irrelevance of Normativity. 9/30/2010 08:35:00 PM Posted by EH. The cliched angel/devil-on-your-shoulder cartoon has long been in the popular memory for quite some time now. And what it represents is an interesting dichotomy. Obviously one side has the devil and another has an angel, each pressuring the individual to make a choice the angel or devil approves of. It came about, all that matters is that we feel these intuitions and see no reason to act against them. Ethical val...

Uruk's Black Box: Part of the Team
http://uruknomad.blogspot.com/2010/09/part-of-team.html
The other stuff I think about. Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Part of the Team. In my previous post, I talked about feeling "outnumbered" racially. Well after some reflection, I feel that I should balance that post out with this one. Though I do feel outnumbered quite often, I have moments where I feel warmly welcomed. That's all I can ask for. And at that moment, I didn't feel outnumbered. I felt just as my daughter did. I felt like I was part of the team. That was a great feeling. View my complete profile.

Uruk's Black Box: October 2010
http://uruknomad.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
The other stuff I think about. Thursday, October 14, 2010. My five year old daughter was sitting at the table, eating some chicken wings when it finally dawns on her:. Daddy, do these chicken wings come from the kind of chickens that goes BOK! Hardly containing my laughter, I answer, "Yes, they are from those kinds of chickens". So these are really their bones? Why do we eat the chickens, Daddy"? Because we like the way they taste. Why else? Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Too Smart for Me. Too Smart for Me.

The other stuff I think about. Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Too Smart for Me. My son wanted to sign up and create his own login account on Cartoon Network.com. But, he needed an e-mail address to use during sign-up. So, he asked me for mine. Son: Dad, what's your e-mail address? Me: Why do you want to know? Son: I wanna sign up so that I can log in and keep my profile on Cartoon Network games. Me: Am I going to get any spam after you sign up? I was expecting to stump him with my question. Too Smart for Me.
